Southern Ports helps bring State Championship Triathlon to Bunbury

An event set to attract 500 competitors to Bunbury from throughout WA is being supported by Southern Ports through its 2024-25 Community Investment Program.

The LGM Bunbury City Classic State Championship Triathlon, hosted by the Bunbury Triathlon Club, is one of 12 South West events and projects sharing more than $33,000 in the program’s second round of 2024-25 funding.

Southern Ports Regional Manager – Bunbury Lee Smith said the State Championship Triathlon promises to attract new visitors to the region while promoting an active lifestyle.

“The Southern Ports Community Investment Program is designed to support our communities prosper,” Mr Smith said. 

“Bringing people to our region and promoting a positive health and wellbeing message is important to us, which is why we’re happy to support the Bunbury Triathlon Club who will put on a great spectacle attracting visitors and locals alike.

“We strive to promote active lifestyle choices within our own teams, and we want to support that message in the wider communities we live and operate in as well.”

The State Championships, centred around the Koombana Bay foreshore, will attract elite competitors in both the open age division and amongst junior age divisions on Sunday 16 February.

Bunbury Triathlon Club President Lauren Lander said the event was a great chance to expose new people to the sport in a friendly local environment.

“Our Club has been gaining momentum in recent years and last year’s Bunbury City Classic was an enormous success along a similar course,” Ms Lander said.

“The State Championship Triathlon will see the competition go up another notch with many visiting competitors vying for points in season-long standings.

“We’re thrilled to have Southern Ports on board because they are a proud supporter of community events, and we’re excited for the champs to come to town next month.”

Across its, three regions more than $125,000 was awarded to 43 community groups and not-for-profit organisation’s during the second round of the 2024-25 Community Investment Program.

Applications for the next round of Southern Ports Community Investment Program are open until 7 March.
