Southern Ports will be opening all three of its regional ports at Albany, Bunbury and Esperance simultaneously to the public through free community boat tours for the first time in its history.
The tours will be held over two days – on Friday 10 October and Saturday 11 October 2025 – providing passengers with a rare glimpse of port operations from the water, while also learning about the ports and the products they trade from Southern Ports staff on board.
Originally due to take place in May, unfavourable weather conditions resulting in rough seas saw the tours postponed.
Southern Ports Chief Executive Officer Keith Wilks said that with the weather warming up, it’s the perfect time to reoffer the chance for the community to get up close to port operations in a safe way.
“We’re proud of the economic contribution we make, and we’re excited to give our communities who live and work right beside us the opportunity to see and hear more about our operations,” said Mr Wilks.
“We’re lucky to work in such a unique environment – not only in terms of the scale of our operations but the size of our infrastructure and the vessels that visit – and we’re hoping these tours provide people with a new perspective of our ports.”
The tours are free, but Southern Ports is seeking gold coin donations on the day, with all proceeds to Foodbank.
“We’re hoping to raise additional funds for our partner Foodbank, which provides food security for many people across our regions – so while these tours are free, we’re asking guests to donate generously to Foodbank on the day,” Mr Wilks added.
The 45-minute tours will run from 9am to 4.45pm on both days. Spots are limited and the free tickets must be booked online via the Southern Ports website at southernports.com.au
Attendees who had previously booked had first preference of tickets with more than 1,000 spots[1] still available across the three locations.
