Dempster’s Jetty

Year
1876
Description
A small jetty /landing was built by the Dempster Bros. on the beach opposite their homestead near Dempster Head. Goods were stored in a limestone shed on the now Esplanade. Wool was shipped out and food and mail landed at Dempster’s landing, but ships came so rarely that the Postmaster put a lamp in the post office window on the night a ship arrived to signal that there was mail to collect. The Yate stumps of the structure were seen for many years after it ceased being used.
