Skylab

At 12:30 am on 12th July a loud sonic boom startled local residents as the American NASA space vehicle, Skylab re-entered Earth’s atmosphere, crashing in the Esperance area. Some locals had the opportunity to collect future valuable wreckage souvenirs. The Esperance Shire issued a litter fine of $400 which NASA never paid. In April 1999 a Californian radio DJ raised funds from his listeners and paid NASA’s bill.
