PORT HISTORY
The Port of Albany was first established in 1826, serving the oldest colonial settlement in Western Australia. As the first and only deep water port in Western Australia until Fremantle opened in 1897, it has traditionally played a key role in facilitating trade in the region.
The Point King Lighthouse was built in 1898, providing key navigational light for the port and becoming only the second lighthouse built in WA.
The Port of Albany is located on the north shore of Princess Royal Harbour, with port waters and the seabed extending throughout Princess Royal Harbour and King George Sound as far as Bald Head, Breaksea Island light and Herald Point.
