Southern Ports is playing an important role in another major regional energy transition project – Synergy’s Collie Battery Energy Storage System.

Premier Hon. Roger Cook MLA and Energy Minister Hon. Reece Whitby MLA celebrated the installation of the first 80 battery units on site this week.

All 640 battery units set to be installed in Collie will be imported through and temporally stored at the Port of Bunbury.

Once completed the Collie battery system will provide 500MW of power and 2000MWh of storage – making it capable of powering 785,000 average homes for four hours.

The Port of Bunbury’s environment, depth and sizeable laydown areas continue to allow it to play a critical role handling the import of sizeable break bulk, including the recent visit of the Helix Q7000.
