Historical Timeline
The dredge 'Hyundai Ho' commenced dredging on 8th July for the new Inner Harbour development and cut through the isthmus into the Leschenault Inlet on 21st August.
The original head was placed on a new Lighthouse structure located closer to the ocean beach (Casuarina Point).
It was painted in a quite distinct black and white chequered pattern. Total height of structure: 27.43m
The Premier, Sir Charles Court officially opens the new Inner Harbour on 2nd April. 'Babette Jacob' was the first vessel at Alcoa Berth 'A' (Berth 4) arriving on 31st March, departs after loading 2,012 tonnes of alumina.
At the Woodchip Berth (Berth 3), 'Hokuetsu Venture' was the first vessel, arriving 6th May, departing 10th May, after loading 34,940 tonnes of woodchips.
Cyclone 'Alby' hits Bunbury, causing widespread damage. At 9:30pm the tide is recorded as 7 feet 3 inches (2.21m). At 10:30pm it is 4 feet 3 inches (1.29m).
The first import of Petroleum ('BP Endeavour) was made over the new facility at Inner Harbour (Berth 3) on 6th June.
The first vessel ('Baron Murray') at the General Purpose Berth (Berth 5), departed 6th February after discharging 6,152 tonnes of Phosphate Rock.
Last commercial vessel for cargo on the Timber Jetty, 'Anangel Diligence' loaded 1,200 tonnes of Oats and departed on 13th April.
Fire on Timber Jetty at No.1West Berth resulted in the Jetty being closed to the public on 17th December.
On 28th December 'Maritime Hibiscus' loaded the first wheat shipment over new C.B.H.'s new loader at Berth 2.
First vessel ('Hoshima Maru') for Worsley Alumina (Berth 4) departed on 25th July.
