IPLF

Port Authority maintenance, tradesmen and office workers combine with nationally employed waterside workers to form a unique multi-skilled workforce, Integrated Port Labour Force (IPLF) within the Port in October.

1994
Inner Harbour extensions

November - Dredging for Inner Harbour extension was completed in November.

1994
Barque ‘Endeavour’

October - Replica vessel 'Endeavour' visits on the way to Sydney after construction in Fremantle.

1996
Concrete Gravity Structure

A Concrete Gravity Structure was built at the Inner Harbour by creating a dry basin for construction phase then flooding the basin at completion.

The structure was towed to the Wandoo Gas Field in the north-west by large tugs. This 81,000 tonne CGS was the first to be installed in Australian waters. Design, construction and installation were completed in 21 months on 6th October.

Berth 8 opens

The 'Sveti Vlaho' being the first ship at the new Berth 8, departing 20th July , loaded 3,030 tonnes of Silica Sand and 34,383 tonnes of Mineral Sands.

BPA takes over Lighthouse

Casuarina Lighthouse transferred from Department of Transport WA to Bunbury Port Authority on 1st October.

2001
New BPA Office

The new BPA Administration Office at Marlston Hill, on the site of the old building was occupied on 21st March. It was opened by Alannah MacTiernan, Minister for Planning and Infrastructure on 10 April and cost $1million.

2004
First female Harbour Master

Helen Cole commenced with BPA in February and with the retirement of Hugh Evans became the first female Harbour Master in Australia.

Bob Allsop in 1988 retired as the longest serving Harbour Master (25 years).

After 1899 Harbour Masters were appointed and employed by the Harbour and Light Department. From 1993 they were employed by the Port Authority.

The first woodchips from Berth 8 departed on 21st August aboard 'KEOYANG MAJESTY', loaded from HANSOL PI's facility.

Open Day

The Port holds its inaugural Port Open Day.

2006
Berth 6 opens

Worsley Alumina's new berth (Berth 6) was completed and the 'PANAXIA' was the first ship to load Alumina there, shifting from Berth 4 to Berth 6 on 27th February and departing on 2nd March. The official opening by the Minister for the South-West was on 7th July.
